The F40 M135i xDrive is the only hot hatch in its class with a longitudinal engine and rear-biased all-wheel drive, meaning power goes rearward first. 300 PS from the B48 four-cylinder puts this within two tenths of the old six-cylinder M140i to 62 mph.
